About Us

Who We Are

“Trees are poems that the Earth writes upon the sky.”  Khalil Gibran

Farmers, Nursery Owners, Homesteaders

The Farm & Forest Growers Cooperative is a group of small-scale farmers, nursery-people, homesteaders, and more.  We are located throughout northern Minnesota, and are driven to help our woodlands and forests remain healthy and resilient in the face of climate induced pressures.

We also believe in the importance of new economic enterprises for rural Minnesotans.  To that end we work collectively to support and build our tree growing businesses.

Learn more about the science behind climate smart trees, the seed collection network, the Cooperative and our growers at our sister website:

I became a seedling tree grower because I have always been fascinated with trees and the legacy they leave for sequestering carbon, providing food, fuel, and fiber, securing and anchoring the soil and landscape, and providing habitat for a thriving community of plants, animals and people. I recognized the unique opportunity to shape the future of MN forests as they adapt to changing climate and appreciated the opportunity to grow my farming operation with the support of the CO-OP.

Our Commitment

We work closely with a broad network of seed collectors who gather native seed from tree populations across the state.  We grow them out with love and integrity, and hope they can become the forests for future generations to enjoy.

Quality & Integrity

We work hard to track every tree seedling from it's point of seed collection, to the growers and finally to the customer/planting sites.

Customer Satisfaction

We work with each customer to best meet their needs. We provide a competitive tiered pricing structure, with wholesale pricing available for 500+ ordered per species.

Sustainability & Responsibility

Every step in our supply chain and production system, we seek ways to make ourselves and our work more sustainable. Our overwintering storage coolers are powered by solar energy, and we seek the means to transport our trees via electric vehicles/trucks.

We Grow Trees – by David Abazs (Round River Farms)

We plant seeds
Seeds gathered south of the forest
To bring new life in the dying wood of time past
The changing climate, indiferent, carma be damned
To grow anew, the forests of tomorrow, today.
A forest for you
That will, with persistence and design,
be a head above the tall deer.
The dear deer envy as the forest slides by them
These “climate smart” trees will shade and protect us and the earth
They will not be harvested by me, and perhaps not even by my children
But the children of our children
Their trunks will gather the carbon
litter the soil with life
We water them, sing to them,
protect them like our lives depend on them, which they do…
We breathe out life to them
We breathe in life from them
We watch them grow, with conviction and hope
We grow trees…
