Forest Friends Share

What’s a Forest Friend?  That’s you!

Do you love our Minnesota forests?  Do you want to ensure the next generations can love them too?  Do you support our mission to grow climate smart tree seedlings that will help the forests and woodlands across our state stay healthy and resilient in the face of a rapidly changing climate and the ensuing ecological challenges?  Then become a Forest Friend!

Of course, the best way to support us is through buying and planting climate smart tree seedlings or spreading the word of we are up to.  However, not everyone has the space to plant trees, yet feel the need to help us in our mission.

We are a Cooperative of small-scale farmers and nursery people, working to build a better tomorrow, and leave a woodland legacy for the next generation that we can proud of.  Buying a Forest Friend’s Share is money that goes directly into us building out our mission.  Supporting and training new farmers, increasing our production capacity, and helping us to build networks across the state.

Of course, planting trees is a positive way of sequestering carbon, which is another way to help balance the great climate system.  Buying a Forest Friend Share directly leads to more trees produced, more trees sold, more connections made and more trees planted.  Are you one of those people curious about how much carbon your money pumps into the ground?  Scroll down into the description to read more of the technical details.

Carbon Sequestration by Tree Plantings

The following calculations are based on a per tree “administrative cost of production” of $1/tree. The administrative cost of production is over and above the costs of growing the tree. At wholesale levels these costs are not being charged to our seedling buyers. It includes Cooperative expenses not incurred by the individual like storage and tree production, marketing, delivery, sales management, etc. Using the I-Tree Calculator…https://planting.itreetools.org/

  • Planting 10 northern red oak with a 3% annual mortality sequesters 6227 pounds of Carbon over the first 30 years of growth.
  • At January 2026 market levels this has an equivalent carbon trading value of $368 at the end of the 30-year growth period. • 10 trees have an administrative cost of $10 which returns $368 over 30 years if measuring carbon benefits only.
